Valley Metro's Smith to serve as CEO through 2020

Valley Metro has approved a two-year extension of Scott Smith's employment agreement as chief executive officer of the Phoenix-based transit agency.

Smith began serving as interim CEO in February 2016. He officially became Valley Metro's CEO in November of the same year.

"Mr. Smith has demonstrated the ability to manage every aspect of the organization," said Valley Metro Rail Vice Chair Thelda Williams. "Under his leadership, Valley Metro has restored fiscal responsibility, increased customer service satisfaction, addressed issues related to safety and security, and increased regional understanding of the importance of transit."

With the extension, Smith will serve as Valley Metro's leader through November 2020.
