Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) recently announced that interim General Manager Dan Tangherlini has withdrawn his candidacy for the permanent top post and accepted a position as city administrator for the District of Columbia.
A former WMATA board member and director of the District of Columbia Department of Transportation, Tangherlini has held the interim GM position since February, when Richard White left the agency after serving more than nine years in the top post.
Tangherlini and WMATA’s board will discuss terms of Tangherlini’s contract, which currently runs through February 2007. In the meantime, the board will continue its search for a permanent general manager.
