HNTB Corp. recently named Peter Gertler vice president to manage and direct major rail, transit and planning projects, and support the company’s expanding practice in the western U.S.

With more than 17 years’ management and technical experience, Gertler has directed large transportation projects around the world.

He most recently served Parsons Brinckerhoff as a key transportation planner for Bay Area Rapid Transit’s (BART) 20-year strategic plan, program manager for the Dumbarton Rail Corridor in San Carlos, Calif., and deputy program manager for the California High Speed Rail Authority’s environmental report. Gertler also served as strategic planning coordinator for Railtrack London, and scope and planning manager for the multi-billion-dollar, 500-mile West Coast Route Modernization project between London and Glasgow/Edinburgh. He previously served as head of BART’s extension planning.

"Peter has extensive transportation planning and rail transit experience, which includes strategy development; federal, state and agency coordination; practical applications; and system operation," said HBTB West Division President J. Lynn Hartford in a prepared statement.
