Safetran Systems Corp. recently appointed Charles Ross president to succeed George Kline, who will retire Dec. 31, ending a 15-year stay in the presidential seat and 18-year Safetran career. Ross assumed the post on Nov. 1.

He most recently served Safetran sister company Invensys Wonderware in concurrent roles as vice president and general manager-supervisory control and data acquisition business, and VP of operations. Ross previously held various product marketing, business development, and engineering and operations management positions at Honeywell, Perkin-Elmer Instrumentation and the U.S. Navy.

During his tenure as president, Kline helped Safetran develop advanced crossing control and wayside signal systems, and central-office supervisory networks designed to manage widely dispersed communications and signal systems. A long-time Railway Progress Institute (RPI) and Railway Supply Association (RSA) member, he also led the consolidation of RPI and RSA into the Railway Supply Institute in 2003.

Safetran supplies components for automatic grade-crossing warning and wayside signaling systems, and mainline and yard switch machine applications to the railroad and mass transit industries.
