September 2023

This month, we present the Rising Stars Class of 2023 — 25 professionals under the age of 40 who are making a difference in the North American rail industry.
Honored during a July 26 virtual ceremony, this year's class represents the industry's best and brightest. These 25 individuals aren't just about now, as we heard and heard during the ceremony. They're about next and the responsibility they know is theirs to pave the way for future up-and-comers.
Great leaders “make the people around them better,” said Jason Boche, senior director of corporate development and strategy for Union Pacific Railroad, during the ceremony. He cited former UP CEO Lance Fritz and new UP President Beth Whited — who'd been named that same day to her current leadership post — as “tremendous influences” in his life.
“I'm sure everyone [here] is committed to making sure those that come behind us get that same benefit,” Boche said.
Added Sean Fahey, MTA Metro-North Railroad's deputy director of operations, planning and analysis: “We rely on those that came before us to teach us to ask the questions, to relay the information they've gained over the years. … It's our duty to relay that information to the next generation, as well, to ensure the continued success of the railroad industry.”
The industry's in good hands with this group. Congratulations to the Rising Stars Class of 2023. Thanks for stepping up, for paying it forward and for pledging to continue to make a difference.
