The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) has selected Northern Real Estate Urban Ventures and the Nix Development Co. as the development team for the Deanwood mixed-use and mixed-income project near the station entrance in northeastern Washington, D.C.

The project calls for the construction of 169 mixed-income residential units and ground floor retail units, WMATA officials said in a press release.

The District of Columbia is constructing a new 20,000-square-foot library at the Deanwood site, contributing an additional $24 million for its development.

WMATA officials expect to approve the project later this year and begin construction in 2028. Since approving a 10-year strategic plan for increasing joint development in April 2022, WMATA and its partners have broken ground on seven developments totaling 1,900 mixed-income housing units, including 1,100 affordable units.
