Residents in Dallas Area Rapid Transit's 13 member cities passed — by more than 77 percent — a $2.9 billion bond issue Aug. 12 to upgrade and accelerate future light-rail lines to Carollton, Farmers Branch, North Irving, South Dallas, Fair Park, Pleasant Grove and Rowlett.
"This vote is tremendous," said DART President/Executive Director Roger Snoble, in a prepared statement.
DART is adding 24 miles of extensions to its 4-year-old, 20-mile line. By using long- instead of the previously planned short-term financing, officials expect to complete work five years earlier.
