VTA allocates millions for Caltrain improvements
advertisement
Last week, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) board approved allocating $12.2 million in Measure A funds for Caltrain as part of its partnership with the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board.
The authority will provide $11.6 million to help fund station projects at the Santa Clara and San Jose Diridon stations. To be complete in 2011, the projects call for improving the stations to accommodate Altamont Commuter Express and Capitol Corridor trains.
VTA also will allocate $600,000 to help Caltrain fund studies for its 2015 Modernization Program, which calls for electrifying the commuter-rail system.
VTA contributes funds to Caltrain in three ways: through its annual budget; through Measure A funds allocated for Caltrain projects directly managed and implemented by VTA; and through Measure A funds contributed to Caltrain projects managed and implemented by SamTrans, Caltrain's managing partner. Measure A funds county transportation improvements through a half-cent sales tax.
