VRE adds parking at Woodbridge station
advertisement
Today, Virginia Railway Express (VRE) opened an expanded parking facility at the Woodbridge Station in Prince William County.
A joint effort between the agency and county, the project included expanding the facility about 30 percent to accommodate 738 vehicles — one of the largest parking structures in the VRE system.
The parking expansion was necessary because ridership at the Woodbridge Station has increased more than 40 percent during the past few years and parking utilization surpassed 90 percent, according to a prepared statement.
The expanded parking facility is one of many VRE projects aimed at expanding capacity to meet demand. When the system opened in 1992, VRE carried about 3,500 daily passengers; now, it carries about 16,000.
