• Wabtec Corp.’s Wabtec Rail subsidiary in Doncaster, England, was awarded a $9 million contract to build 24 specialty ballast wagons for Irish Rail. The 24 wagons, which will be operated by remote radio control, are scheduled for delivery in 2010. They’ll feature components from Wabtec subsidiaries Becorit, POLI-MZT and Standard Car Truck. During the past 10 years, Wabtec Rail has built more than 250 ballast wagons for the U.K. market.
• RailComm’s Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) Centralized Traffic Control (CTC) system recently was placed in production service at Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet). The system is dispatched through a RailComm-provided, Web-enabled, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) delivery platform hosted in Rochester, NY. RailComm’s SaaS platform provides a “pay-as-you-go” model, eliminating “capital equipment procurement constraints,” the company said in a prepared statement.
