Toronto subway extension under way

The Toronto Transit Commission recently marked the start of construction on a rail link that will connect the future Toronto-York Spadina subway extension mainline with Wilson Subway Yard.
The Canadian government is providing $5.5 million for the project, which also calls for expanding yard storage facilities. The province of Ontario, city of Toronto and York Region will cover the majority of subway construction costs.
“This will be the first subway system that crosses a municipal border linking Toronto and the York Region,” said Toronto Mayor David Miller in a prepared statement. “It will eventually give hundreds of thousands of daily commuters new transportation options.”
