Taiwan Railway contracts Bombardier for train protection systems

Taiwan Railway Administration Sept. 11 awarded Bombardier Transportation an $80 million contract for a complete automatic train protection system, comprising computers for 832 locomotives, 14,000 balises and 2,000 encoders.
The deal also includes 13 simulators for driver training and systems for train data presentation. Bombardier leads the consortium, which also includes Mitac Inc. and Welltec Systems Engineering Inc.
Delivery is slated to begin this month, and take 40 months to complete.
