TTC installs bike repair stops in 10 subway stations, reports two-year high for rider satisfaction
The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) plans to install self-service bicycle repair stops at 10 subway stations, the agency announced earlier this week.
The pilot program will allow customers to complete minor bicycle repairs while commuting in Toronto, agency officials said in a news release.
Repair equipment includes wrenches, Allen keys, screwdrivers, and a bike pump.
All 10 bike repair sites will be in place by the end of September, TTC officials said.
"The TTC is committed to enhancing mobility options in Toronto. By adding bicycle infrastructure at TTC stations and on buses, we've made it easier for our riders to complete the first and last mile legs of their trips," said TTC Chair Josh Colle.
The 10 subway stations were chosen based on criteria such as existing bike parking, number of bike trips taken in the surrounding area, bike routes and trails in the neighborhood and physical space at the station.
Meanwhile, TTC last week reported that customer satisfaction levels were at a two-year high, according to data from the agency's 2015 second quarter customer satisfaction survey.
Overall satisfaction was 79 percent for the quarter, up from 72 percent in 2014 for the same period in 2014.
Additionally, 90 percent of respondents in the 2015 survey perceived an "average or better value for money" on their last TTC trip.
The agency polls 1,000 customers by telephone each quarter. Respondents are residents of Toronto, are at least 13 years old and use TTC routes at least once every few weeks, agency officials said.
