Last year, the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA) posted record ridership on its Tri-Rail commuter-rail system. The agency logged 3.5 million passengers — a 10.2 percent increase compared with the previous record of 3.2 million passengers set in 2006.

The agency also recorded its highest single day ridership of 13,981 on Dec. 14, 2007.

Since SFRTA completed its Double Track Corridor Improvement Program in March 2006, ridership has increased more than 31 percent. The project called for double-tracking all but two miles of the agency’s 72-mile system and adding service. SFRTA currently operates 50 trains each weekday.
