Rail News: Passenger Rail

Sound Transit opens Kent Garage earlier than expected

advertisement

Sound Transit March 20 opened Kent Garage at Sounder’s Kent Station — three months ahead of schedule.

The five-level structure provides 871 parking spaces for commuters traveling to and from Kent on ST Express regional buses and King County Metro buses, as well as on Sounder commuter rail trains.

Despite the garage’s opening, construction at the site will continue and include:

• a pedestrian bridge;

• public-entry plaza;

• bus transit island; and

• rider drop-off areas.

Because the facility was completed early, all traffic will need to enter through a single temporary entrance until the adjoining streets are completed, sometime in fall.
