Sound Transit recently obtained a $1.98 million grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to install Talking Signs® systems for hearing-impaired passengers. The grant is the first FTA has awarded to implement the technology.
An infrared wireless communications system, Talking Signs provide information via human voice messages. The system sends short audio signals via infrared from transmitters to hand-held readers that decode the signal and deliver a voice message through a speaker or headset.
