Rail News: Passenger Rail
Severe flooding prompts Northeast transit agencies to restrict service

Passenger-rail service in New York, New Jersey and other parts of the U.S. Northeast is limited or canceled today due to severe flooding.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced today that all service across its subway, commuter-rail and bus services is “extremely limited” as agency crews work to recover from last night’s heavy rainfall and flooding. New Yorkers are advised to avoid all unnecessary travel, according to a service alert on the agency’s website.
New York City yesterday announced a flash flood warning for the first time. Heavy rainfall overnight flooded streets and train stations.
New Jersey Transit also advised its riders that all rail service, except the Atlantic City rail line, remains suspended due to storm impacts. Newark light rail also is suspended.
Also, significant rainfall along the Northeast Corridor prompted Amtrak to cancel service between Philadelphia and Boston. Modified Acela service between Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia was offered before 9 a.m.
