Ridership on Sound Transit’s Sounder commuter-rail service has reached record levels during the summer, so the transit agency is adding a seventh car to one morning and afternoon train operating between Seattle and Tacoma, Wash.
On Aug. 24 and 25, the agency broke previous daily ridership records when more than 3,900 passengers boarded commuter trains each day.
"We’re seeing more and more trains with standing room and it is time to add to our capacity to ensure the continued comfort of our passengers," said Sound Transit Board Chair and Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg in a prepared statement.
