Santa Clara VTA proposes extending light rail to Los Gatos
advertisement
The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is proposing to extend the existing Mountain View-to-Winchester light-rail line to Los Gatos, Calif.
The 1.6-mile extension would begin at the Winchester Station in Campbell and continue within VTA's right of way to the town of Los Gatos, agency officials said in a prepared statement.
Yesterday, the agency made available for public review the proposed project's supplemental draft environmental impact report/environmental assessment, which includes design changes that were approved in 2000 and the potential environmental impacts of those changes.
Dubbed the Vasona Light-Rail Extension Project, the proposed $175 million extension would be implemented in two phases based on funding availability. The first phase would include construction of a double set of tracks at Winchester Station, a new Vasona Junction station and park-and-ride lot. The second phase would include a new Hacienda Station and optional park-and-ride lot.
On Dec. 4, the agency plans to host a public meeting to review the project.
