Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) will resume early morning commuter-rail service now that the Federal Railroad Administration has approved a quiet zone in Windsor, California.

At the request of the Windsor Town Council, three early-morning weekday southbound trains had been  temporarily suspended to minimize train horn noise at a grade crossing for nearby residents pending the establishment of a quiet zone, SMART officials said in a press release.

The FRA's quiet zone approval began yesterday. As a result, SMART restored the southbound 4:35 a.m., 4:58 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. trains.

SMART engineers still will be required to sound horns at the crossing when an emergency is present.
