Reading & Northern Railroad (R&N) yesterday announced its all-day passenger excursions are now available year round.

Passengers can ride the train to Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, from either the Reading Outer Station or Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Regional Railroad Station in Pittston for $39. The trips will follow largely the same schedule as in prior years, R&N officials said in a press release. The change to year-round schedule was made without increasing fares, they said.

The winter 2026 schedule was announced in December 2025. Trains from Pittston and Reading will run on Saturdays and Sunday, plus select holidays, through Sept. 20th. Following the success of last year, trains will also run on Fridays in September. There will also be fall and early winter excursions offered on weekends in November and December, R&N officials said.

This year marks the 10th year of passenger excursions being offered from the Reading Outer Station, located at the southern end of R&N's operating territory. It is mainly served by the railroad's 1950s-era self-propelled diesel cars.

This will be the fourth year passengers can board at the Wilkes/Barre-Scranton station in Pittston, and R&N has plans to extend this route into Wilkes-Barre.
