The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) recently announced it selected a new location for the Middletown station to improve the community’s access to Amtrak’s Keystone Corridor.
In partnership with the Dauphin County Redevelopment Authority, PennDOT reached a $2.3 million purchase agreement for the station's site, which is near the Penn State Harrisburg campus and Harrisburg International Airport.
PennDOT will schedule a public meeting in early 2011 to gather input on design and other project considerations. The agency has not yet set a construction date.
The Middletown station initiative is part of Plan the Keystone, a program that aims to improve transit service and strengthen the communities along the Amtrak route, according to a press release.
