Ontario issues first RFP for Hamilton light-rail project

Ontario government officials on May 21 issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the first work package of the Metrolinx Hamilton Light Rail Transit (LRT) project.
Four teams that went through the request for qualifications process have been invited to submit proposals for the civil work on the project, Ontario government officials said in a press release. The teams were not identified.
Work will include utility relocations, roads, structures, grade separations, bridges, sidewalks and traffic control signals along the 8.7-mile route. Once completed, the Hamilton LRT will connect 50,000 commuters to an expanded Hamilton Street Railway and the GO transit network, which includes buses and commuter trains, Ontario officials said.
The route will feature 17 stops, including McMaster University, City Hall, Hamilton Stadium, Eastgate Square and downtown Hamilton. Ontario and the federal government are investing $3.4 billion in transit infrastructure for the Hamilton LRT, Ontario officials said.
