Northeastern Illinois projects to receive $65 million in CMAQ funds

U.S. Department of Transportation Feb. 21 approved Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ) funds totaling nearly $65 million for 58 transportation projects in northeastern Illinois.
Qualifying projects include transit facility improvements at Metra’s Laraway Road Station, which would receive $520,000, and Chicago Department of Transportation’s State/Lake-Loop El Station, $480,000.
Commuter parking lots at the following Metra stations also qualify:
• Mokena, $340,000;
• Hazel Crest, $242,000;
• Olympia Fields, $2.2 million;
• Glenview, $800,000;
• Mont Clare, $260,000;
• Elmhurst, $640,000;
• Orland Park, $600,000; and
• Dee Road; $600,000.
Other approved projects include those for bikes, trails, pedestrian facilities and bottleneck eliminations.
About $70 million is expected to be available for fiscal-year 2003 CMAQ projects.
