Today, the Federal Transit Administration announced it approved a $17.2 million grant to Triangle Transit Authority (TTA) for a planned 32.2-mile commuter-rail system between Durham and North Raleigh, N.C.
The grant brings total federal funding for the project to $62.2 million. TTA will use the funds to help pay for final design, engineering and project management.
The line will include 16 stations and 13 park-and-ride lots between Duke Medical Center in Durham and Spring Forest Road in Raleigh. TTA will build four stations in Durham, two in Research Triangle Park, two in Cary and eight in Raleigh. All facilities will include bus connections; stations in downtown Durham and Raleigh will connect to planned multi-modal centers.
