New Jersey Transit last week approved a $4.6 million contract with John O'Hara Co. Inc. as part of a project to improve the air conditioning system at Newark Penn Station.
The firm will provide construction services for the replacement of two chillers and two cooling towers, NJ Transit officials said in a press release. The current units have been in service for nearly 30 years and need to be replaced, NJ Transit officials said.
In 2020, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced $190 million in funding for renovations at the station built in 1935. NJ Transit is carrying out the work under the Newark Penn Station Modernization Project.
