advertisement
New Jersey Transit Corp. Sept. 24 awarded Alstom a $175 million contract to design and manufacture 33 new 4000-horsepower diesel-electric locomotives — in addition to the Comet V passenger rail coaches Alstom already is providing the statewide agency.
Alstom plans to work with General Motors Corp.’s Electro-Motive Division to design the locomotives, based on Alstom’s PRIMA™ technology. The locomotives also will include Alstom’s IGBT AC Traction drive system and EMD’s 16 cylinder 710 engine.
The contract includes spare parts and an option for five additional locomotives.
