Minnesota's Northstar Commuter Rail service ran its final trip yesterday, after providing rail service to football fans attending the Vikings-Packers NFL game in downtown Minneapolis.
The Twin Cities' Metropolitan Council voted in August to shut down the service due to declining ridership. Launched in 2009, the service operated a 40-mile route through several northern suburbs to downtown Minneapolis.
In its place, Metro Transit — working with Anoka County Transit and Anoka County Commute Solutions — has launched a bus network to serve riders throughout the day, not just during peak commuting hours.
