Metrolinx, Infrastructure Ontario and the Toronto Transit Commission have released a request for proposals to three teams short-listed for the new Sheppard East Maintenance and Storage Facility project.
Part of the Sheppard East light-rail project, the facility will house new light-rail vehicles operating on the Sheppard East line and include facilities to serve the upgraded Scarborough RT, part of the Metrolinx "Big Five" priority rapid transit projects. A carhouse, storage track, maintenance-of-way building, brake test track and traction power sub-station also will be included in the new maintenance and storage facility, Metrolinx officials said in a prepared statement.
The short-list bidders include Plenary Infrastructure, Sheppard Facility Development Group and SNC-Lavalin. Three other pre-qualified parties will be held in reserve to replace any short-listed bidder that is unable to participate, according to Metrolinx.
The Canadian government will provide up to $333 million for the Sheppard East light-rail project and maintenance and storage facility.
