Metrolinx increases train frequency on GO Transit line
Effective June 29, the frequency of most off-peak Lakeshore GO Transit service in the Toronto area will be increased to every 30 minutes to address an increase in ridership, Metrolinx officials announced on Friday.
"This significant increase of service is the result of years of careful planning and construction to expand service on this line," they said in a press release.
Since 2006, infrastructure along the Lakeshore line has been incrementally upgraded and improved to prepare for future 30-minute service. The improvements included purchasing corridor segments and upgrading the tracks on those lines.
In 2009, a third track on the Lakeshore West line was installed between Union Station and Port Credit, as well as between Kerr Street in Oakville and Hamilton.
The continued expansion of GO Transit service is a top priority of Metrolinx's regional transportation plan known as "The Big Move."
