The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently opened the outbound headhouse at Kendall/MIT Station.
Located on the Red Line, the station is named after the primary areas it serves: the Kendall Square business district and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The headhouse was renovated and funded by developer BXP in coordination with the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority. It now features a new glass enclosure with renovated stairs, an escalator and an additional glass elevator accessible from street level.
“Kendall/MIT Station remains fully accessible, and the new redundant elevator will be ready for passenger service once the final phase of headhouse renovation is complete, which is anticipated in early June,” MBTA officials said in a press release.
