MBTA extends late-night pilot program until mid-June

Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Chief Executive Officer and Secretary Stephanie Pollack announced last week that the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) will extend its late-night pilot program through June 19.

As part of the program, the agency provides rail and bus service for 90 additional minutes Friday and Saturday nights. The additional service has resulted in 1.1 million more boardings, according to a MassDOT press release.

MassDOT officials hope that extending the program until June will allow the public more opportunity to give feedback.

"We owe the public all of the information we have and the chance to provide input on ways we could keep or modify late night service," Pollack said in a statement issued last week.

The agency will solicit feedback from customers and stakeholders through March 11.
