LIRR completes, Metro-North advances station upgrades

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) yesterday announced it completed accessibility upgrades to Murray Hill Station in Queens, New York City.

The station now has two elevators, renewed retaining walls, upgraded lighting, security cameras, new signage and an updated plaza area.

With the upgrades, Murray Hill becomes the 107th accessible station out of 124 stations in the system, MTA officials said in a press release.

Improvement construction began in 2017 and is part of the broader LIRR Modernization Program.

Meanwhile, MTA Metro-North Railroad completed site preparation work and is nearing completion of demolition at the Port Jervis Station in Port Jervis.

Metro-North crews are building a high-level platform, ramp, canopy and passenger shelter. Work will be completed in December. 

Crews last month also completed communications and signal projects to support positive train control on the 60-mile Port Jervis Line.
