The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (L.A. Metro) today is starting restoration work on Wilshire Boulevard in the Westwood area.

Reconstruction of the surface level road marks a major milestone in the ongoing construction of the D Line subway extension project, which will run from Koreatown to Westwood, L.A. Metro officials said in a press release.

Over the next 10 to 12 weekends, crews will remove over 700 concrete deck panels that temporarily provided motorists with a surface on Wilshire Boulevard at the future Westwood and University of California-Los Angeles subway station site. After the panels are removed, L.A. Metro's contractor will restore Wilshire Boulevard to normal condition, allowing construction on the subway station to continue.

The D Line subway project will extend 9 miles underground with stations in Miracle Mile, Beverly Hills, Century City and Westwood. When the project is completed in 2027, riders will be able to travel from Westwood to downtown Los Angeles in 25 minutes, L.A. Metro officials said.
