On July 26, Los Angeles County commuters will have expanded travel options throughout the area when Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) opens its Metro Gold Line. The 13.7-mile light-rail line will link Los Angeles’ Union Station to Pasadena, with stops in Chinatown, Lincoln Heights, Highland Park and South Pasadena.



In its first year of operation, the line is expected to carry between 26,000 and 32,000 passengers on an average weekday. Trains will operate every 10 minutes during peak hours, 12 minutes during mid-day hours and 20 minutes on weekends.



The $859 million system includes 13 stations and 26 rail cars, each seating 76 passengers.



The new line will expand Metro Rail to 73.1 miles, and link two existing light-rail lines and a subway that crisscross portions of Los Angeles County.



In early 2004, MTA plans to begin constructing Metro Gold Line’s Eastside Extension, which would connect Union Station to East Los Angeles.
