Illinois university to provide online training courses for Metra workers

Chicago’s Metra recently entered into an intergovernmental agreement with Western Illinois University’s Center for the Application of Information Technologies (CAIT) under which the college will provide computer-based training courses for the transit agency’s employees.
CAIT will work with Metra’s workforce education and training team to create two interactive online courses and create a strategic plan to implement a Web-based training system. The center also will provide online hosting and maintenance services.
To be implemented next year, the first two courses will cover drug and alcohol awareness for Metra supervisors, and railroad operating practices for all transportation, track, signal and mechanical employees. Both courses will be designed to meet U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Railroad Administration training requirements.
“This partnership will enable Metra to better document and evaluate our training programs, while improving employee access to the training itself,” said Metra Executive Director Philip Pagano in a prepared statement.
