Hampton Roads Transit’s (HRT) executive committee recently nominated Norfolk City Councilman Paul Riddick as chairman. The chairmanship rotates among representatives of seven cities and each chairman serves a one-year term.
The full HRT board will vote on Riddick’s nomination later this month. If approved, Riddick would succeed Jim Wood, a Virginia Beach city councilman.
HRT is building The Tide, a 7.4-mile light-rail line that will run from the Eastern Virginia Medical Center through downtown Norfolk, Va., along a corridor paralleling Interstate 264. The line is scheduled to open in May 2011.
