Gov. Patrick taps Davey as Massachusetts' rail, transit administrator
advertisement
Yesterday, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick announced he has nominated Richard Davey to manage the state’s public transit and rail operations. Davey currently is general manager of Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad (MBCR), which provides commuter-rail service for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).
Davey would serve as the state’s rail and transit administrator, overseeing 15 regional transit authorities, including MBTA, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s (MassDOT) freight- and passenger-rail program. He would succeed MBTA General Counsel William Mitchell, who has been the state’s acting transit administrator and general manager since late last year.
If confirmed by MassDOT’s board at a meeting tomorrow, Davey would be the first person to oversee both the MBTA and the rest of the state's mass transit agencies since those operations were consolidated into one agency.
