The Gateway Development Commission (GDC) has opened a new Hudson Tunnel Project New Jersey Community Engagement Center in Weehawken, New Jersey. There are now two GDC community engagement centers near active Hudson Tunnel Project construction sites — one in New Jersey and one in New York.

The centers are outreach hubs where members of the public can connect with GDC staff and learn about the $16 billion Hudson Tunnel Project through educational exhibits, videos, models and interactive digital maps. GDC staff are on site to answer questions, GDC officials said in a press release.

“GDC is committed to being a good neighbor to the communities where we are building the Hudson Tunnel Project and to making sure everyone who will benefit from reliable, modern rail travel into, out of, and through New York City understands the work we are doing and is up to speed on our progress,” said GDC CEO Tom Prendergast.

The Hudson Tunnel Project calls for constructing and rehabilitating rail tunnel infrastructure under the Hudson River. The existing 110-year-old tunnel carries over 200,000 passenger trips between New York City and New Jersey every weekday, according to the Rail Passengers Association
