The Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) yesterday announced it has reached 30% completion of the preliminary design for the D2 Subway, a proposed second light-rail alignment through the Dallas Central Business District.
Reaching that milestone means DART can begin preparing a final environmental impact statement (FEIS). Once submitted, the Federal Transit Administration plans to issue a FEIS and record of decision to environmentally clear the project so it can advance to engineering, DART officials said in a press release.
Once the project reaches the engineering stage, DART will begin detailed design and construction.
The project is expected to enter revenue service in 2025.
