DART beefs up security on trains
advertisement
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) has added a uniformed security presence on every train via a combination of police, fare enforcement officers and armed security guards, agency officials announced yesterday.
DART operates up to 42 trains, in sets of two or three rail cars, during peak service. The uniformed staff will be stationed on trains during regular operating hours, DART officials said in a prepared statement.
The initiative is the latest in a series of steps DART has taken to increase the visibility of police and other uniformed security staff following recent incidents on agency property, they said.
DART also continues to add closed-circuit cameras at light-rail stations, a project that is scheduled for completion next month. The agency expects to begin a pilot program for cameras on trains later this year.
