Connecticut task force to identify, recommend solutions for rail station parking issues

The state of Connecticut recently announced plans to create a task force to review parking management and capacity issues along the New Haven and Shore Line East commuter-rail lines. The task force will include members from the Connecticut Commuter Rail Council and regional planning agencies.
"Tens of thousands of commuters compete for limited parking spaces every day at stations up and down our rail lines," said Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell in a prepared statement. "As we add rail cars and expand the capacity of our rail system, we need short- and longer-range solutions to a problem that has plagued rail commuters for too long."
Currently, parking policies along the two lines can vary dramatically from one station to another, Rell said. Most are state owned, but some are owned and/or operated by municipalities.
Meanwhile, the state also announced last week that it will issue $4 million in bonds to design a second parking garage at Union Station in New Haven.
