Caltrain fills service gap
advertisement
Caltrain plans to add 10 trains to its weekday schedule and four on Saturdays, beginning Sept. 24. Earlier this year, Caltrain received 20 bi-level gallery cars from Nippon Sharyo USA Inc. and three locomotives from Boise Locomotive Co.
Representing Caltrain’s largest service increase since 1992, the additional trains would close the hourly mid-day service gap that currently exists between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays, and enable Caltrain to take other trains out for mid-life overhauls.
Under the new schedule, weekday trains would have half-hour headways throughout the day. Trains added to Saturday’s schedule would create hourly service from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
