Rail News: Passenger Rail
Last week, the California Transportation Commission announced it will allocate $431 million for 92 transportation projects — including several involving transit rail — throughout the state.
The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority will receive $43.8 million as reimbursement for the Metro Gold Line Eastside light-rail line. Scheduled to open in 2009, the line will extend service six miles from downtown L.A.’s Union Station to Little Tokyo, Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles.
The commission also will allocate $19 million to Caltrain to extend commuter-rail service — currently operating between San Francisco and Gilroy — to Salinas.
