CalSTA seeks grant applicants for transit, intercity rail projects

The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) last week began accepting applications for a total of $450 million to $500 million in funding available under the Transit and Intercity Rail Capital Program (TIRCP).

The TIRCP was created by California legislation to fund projects designed to modernize and expand the state's intercity, commuter and urban rail systems, as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Grant recipients will receive a portion of funding available to the TIRCP during the fiscal-year 2020-21 to FY2024-25 time period, CalSTA officials said in a press release.

The application deadline is Jan. 16, 2020. Grant recipients will be announced by April 1, 2020.

Also last week, CalSTA issued final guidelines for the program following a public review of draft guidelines.
