Rail News: Passenger Rail
Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) officials recently announced plans to sell the authority’s Wilson Yard to the city of Chicago for $6.6 million. The city will sell the property to a developer to construct a multi-use facility including mixed income housing and retail space.
Located between Wilson and Montrose avenues on Chicago’s north side just east of CTA’s Red Line, the 164,000-square-foot property currently contains a maintenance facility and outdoor storage area. CTA does not need the property to conduct its regular operations, according to a prepared statement.
The authority will retain permanent easement rights at the property to operate and maintain Red Line service and track structure. CTA will relocate the maintenance shop and storage area to another property.
