Brightline, the high-speed passenger-rail service, is approaching the first anniversary of its elevated service between Miami and Orlando. On Sept. 22, 2023, Brightline opened the Brightline Orlando Station in partnership with Orlando Health on the Orlando International Airport campus.

Since opening the station, Brightline has cumulatively traveled 5.4 million miles, with 2.6 million rides taken, Brightline officials said in a press release.

Brightline began operating in South Florida in 2018, connecting Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. The Boca Raton and Aventura stations opened in 2022. Construction on the 170-mile extension from West Palm Beach to Orlando began in 2019; testing began in May 2023. The $6 billion project generated 10,000 jobs during construction and approximately $6.4 billion in direct economic impact, Brightline officials said.

Looking ahead, Brightline expects to add 30 new coaches to its fleet of eight trainsets for its South and Central Florida service, with the first five beginning service this fall.
