The Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) has released a request for qualifications (RFQ) for a $7.1 billion final design and construction contract for Austin Light Rail Phase 1, a contract slated to be awarded in early 2026.

The contractor that ATP selects will build nearly every part of the system, ATP officials said in a press release.

RFQ responses are due July 3. Qualified firms then will be invited to participate in the request for proposals (RFP) process. The final agreement is expected to extend throughout design, construction and opening for service, planned for 2033.

Austin's first light-rail system will feature 15 stations along nearly 10 miles of track, miles of new pedestrian and cycling paths and a new bridge across Lady Bird Lake. Trains will be all electric and run every five to 10 minutes.
