Amtrak taps technology to better manage purchasing processes
advertisement
In an effort to improve its purchasing practices, Amtrak July 30 selected Ariba Inc.’s Buyer™.
The e-commerce system is designed to enable Amtrak employees to purchase supplies from their computer desktops. Requests would be electronically submitted for approval, then forwarded to the corporation’s preferred suppliers.
Andersen (formerly Arthur Andersen) plans to integrate Buyer into Amtrak’s existing back-end enterprise systems, including financial databases and human resources software.
Amtrak officials expect to launch the system by October with 250 employees and 10 preferred suppliers. Fully deployed, it would be available to all Amtrak employees and about 1,000 online suppliers.
