Altamont Commuter Express to hike fares in '09

This month, the Altamont Commuter Express will hold public hearings to gather input on a proposed fare increase, which could be implemented on Jan. 1, 2009.
The agency — which did not raise fares in fiscal year 2007/08 because of poor on-time performance the previous year — has proposed increasing ticket prices 3.2 percent, or equal to the San Francisco Consumer Price Index from April 2007 to April 2008. All ticket prices will be rounded to the nearest 25-cent increment.
